Preparing for Summer 2013

We are excited to be preparing more aggressively for the work to be done this summer! The Kenyan elections have just taken place and our team members in Kenya are preparing to conduct informal interviews in the Kisumu area with rural midwives. This exciting new venture will hopefully provide more information about meeting the hygiene needs of women giving birth outside of a medical facility.

This winter, our partnership with Power of Hope in Kibera has been strengthened with weekly meetings to discuss their increased leadership role in hygiene training’s and income generating activities.

Interviews have been conducted this week to choose the next group of University of Denver students who will be joining the ranks of successful graduate research assistants. We hope to present the next team soon!

Some of our goals this summer are:

  • Business and relationship development to increase usage of the facilities.
  • Increase sanitary pad production as an income generating activity for Power of Hope.
  • Increase sanitary pad production and use for school girls in Kibera.
  • Develop and implement a summer hygiene festival with a competition for school Health clubs to present their hygiene songs or skits.
  • Continue efforts to increase water access and water purification usage.
